Alzheimer's Care PDF Print E-mail

Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias are a rapidly growing problem facing today’s seniors, and even people as young as their 40’s. According to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, in the next 30 years the number of people living with Alzheimer’s is expected to more than double. It is a terrifying and debilitating disease, and places an enormous burden on families and caregivers.

By keeping a person with dementia engaged and stimulated physically, cognitively and socially, it is possible to slow down the effects of the dementia and to manage difficult behaviours. This is why day programs offered by the Alzheimer’s Society and other organizations are so helpful. But not everyone can or wants to attend these group programs.

Jackson Therapeutic Recreation is essentially a day program that comes to your home. Our qualified and professional recreation therapists visit in your home to provide 1:1 activity programs that help manage the disease and protect the person’s physical, cognitive and social abilities. Our in-home therapists offer the best combination of skills and experience to make a meaningful difference in quality of living for both the person with dementia and their caregiver.

  • Our services are tax deductible as a medical expense

  • They will assess what kinds of cognitive, physical and social stimulation is appropriate and set specific goals with you

  • They can implement Montessori techniques and other proven methods to maximize therapeutic benefits to the person with dementia
