We have developed this page on our web site to help us with our recruiting efforts. We want to reduce the time it takes to find the right RTs for our clients by having resumes already on hand. By providing some insight into who typically works with us and by answering some common types of questions, we are hoping that we will attract resumes of RTs who are ready to take on clients. Please call us if you would like to know more. We are a growing company, and are always looking for the right people to join us.

We only hire people who have a diploma or degree in Therapeutic Recreation. Our staff also need to have working experience with the population that we are hiring for, i.e. geriatrics or ABI. You will ideally have your own transportation.

Working with Jackson Therapeutic Recreation (JTR) could be a great fit for you for any of the following reasons (there may well be others as well):

    * You are working full-time but want to add some hours around your current schedule.
    * You are part-time in your current position and want to add more hours to your schedule.
    * You are finishing a maternity leave and do not wish to return to full-time employment.
    * You want the benefits of working from home.
    * You like the idea of a flexible schedule.

All JTR staff work in an exclusively 1:1 setting with their clients. This tends to allow more progress to be made on a larger number of goals in a shorter period of time. If participation in group activities is appropriate for our programming goals, then we involve the client. Otherwise the client and RT benefit from ongoing, focused 1:1 interventions.

1:1 settings are nothing new for TR. The key difference with JTR is what we refer to as its “ongoing” nature. We are delivering interventions for as long as the client, their family, or substitute decision maker want to have us there. Our goals evolve over time to suit progress made or changes in health status. The total hourly amount of our involvement with each client has varied from as little as one hour per week up to 14 hours per week.

The number of hours you work per week depends on the case load that you have at any given time. JTR staff will take on clients until their personal schedules are full. We have staff that work as little as 1 hour per week, right up to almost 30. It is important to note that we cannot guarantee how many hours you work as clients can leave us at any time. We will try to replace those hours as soon as possible, but since we cannot predict when a new client will come in that fits your skills and availability, we can’t promise when that will happen.

When you work, i.e. your schedule, depends on combining when you are available with what is best for the clients. Some will be more responsive to interventions in the mornings, some in the evenings. Some may have specific things they wish to do that happen at specific times. You will only take clients whose needs fit with your own availability.

We purchase supplies specific to each client, and leave them at the client’s location. Staff need to submit a request stating what they would like to purchase, what it will cost, why they need it, and what goals it will help achieve. The client/family/POA will then approve the request and pay for the supplies.

After every session we deliver with each of our clients, we complete a one page standardized report called Progress Notes.

Objective, simple, clear, and brief point form notes are what are required.

Once documentation for a session is complete it is submitted to the office via email. This creates an electronic health record (EHR) for everything we do with each of our clients. Copies of this documentation are sent to the client/family/POA with their invoice each month. If the client lives in a care facility, such as long term care, copies are sent there as well to be included in their chart (with consent).

The only time JTR compensates a staff person for travel time or the use of their car is if they have used it to take a client somewhere. In that case, a flat rate of $7.50 per use is applied.

JTR staff are treated as employees not sub-contractors. The simple and only reason for this is the corporate liability policy only covers people classified as employees. This means that standard payroll deductions are made for EI, CPP and income tax.

JTR has a CGL (corporate general liability) policy in place. This is the same in principle to the liability coverage offered through TRO, but covers everyone employed by the company, not just one person. So the premiums are many times greater than the individual policies. JTRS also has WSIB coverage.

As of September 2007 JTR also provides professional malpractice insurance for its staff as an added layer of protection.

Yes, absolutely we do, and that is the purpose of this section of our web site. We keep as many resumes on file as possible, as it shortens our turnaround time for matching a new client with their therapist. If you are at all interested in working with JTR, please send us your resume. If you have already sent it to us, and you see a posting that you are interested in and qualified for, please send it again. If you feel you are qualified for a posted position but have not received a call, feel free to contact us.

That completely depends on your experience. Thus far JTR has focused primarily on geriatric populations, with some brain injury work as well. Of course, the profession of Therapeutic Recreation can work with any population, and JTR is able to do the same. We will meet the needs of any client by hiring an RT with the appropriate training and experience.

Thank you for coming to this page. If you are interested in taking on some clients with JTR, send us your resume today!
