Switching to Green Power

We are pleased to annouce that the Jackson Therapeutic Recreation web site you are currently visiting is now hosted by green power. Our new hosting service offers the following green benefits:

- Uses more energy efficient servers
- Purchases renewable energy credits for 130% of the power used
- Plants a tree with TreeCanada.ca for every new hosting client

We have also managed to reduce paper use in our administration office by approximately 25% and counting by encouraging our clients and partner agencies to share files and reports via email whenever possible. This effort also promotes the move towards using electronic health records, we extend our thanks to them for their support.

New position added: Clinical Manager

We have added a supervisory position to our company in the form of a Clinical Manager. This position is held by a recreation therapist and provides a valuable layer of support to our staff in the field. This is a great step in the ongoing evolution of our service, and we will be deploying additonal Clinical Managers as we continue to grow.

1:1 Therapeutic Recreation in Long Term Care: Not just for seniors

We are seeing a growing population of younger residents moving into long term care facilities due to a lack of other options. They come with a wide variety of health conditions, and occasionally their health status is more critical than some of the elderly residents. They can have Huntington disease, Cerebral Palsy, a brain injury, or any other illness or barrier. Due to their age, the mainstream recreational programming of a long term care facility may not be as appealing or meaningful as it is to the older residents.

Using supplemental 1:1 therapeutic recreation programming will augment the group programs that the facility offers. This will ensure that younger residents have the opportunity to engage in therapeutic recreation and leisure activities that are meaningful, relevant, and targeted to their unique needs and interests.
